I got a pattern from GreatBallsofYarn.com called “Back to Basics, Classic Seed and Leaf Scarf”. I’ve gotten up to row 24 and pulled it out a million times. I thinkthere is an error in Pattern Row 1 (row7). I’ve even had a friend who is an expert knitter and she found the same thing. I really, really want to make this scarf, it’s beautiful! Anyone have a suggestions?
Seed and Leaf Scarf
Hi and welcome to KH! I found the pattern on their site and that is very pretty (thanks I saved it), I tried looking on google and in Ravelry to see if anyone blogged or mentions an error but came up with nothing…I would try e-mailing the shop and seeing if they know of an error on that row
 hrmm ok I just looked at it and it seems like it should work out over 24sts.
You have your 4 seed sts for the border
P1 (5th st)
K3 (8 sts)
K2tog (10sts)
K1 (11sts)
P2 (13 sts)
K1 (14 sts)
SSK (16 sts)
K3 (19sts)
P1 (20 sts)
4 border sts (24sts)
Are you doing the border sts on both sides
I agree with dustinac. The leaf pattern is worked over 16 stitches with a border of 4 stitches of seed stitch on either side.
Row 6: P1, k1, p1, k1, p across row to last 4 sts, p1, k1, p1, k1.
Maintain 4 seed st on each side of panel. Next row begins leaf pattern.
Pattern row 1 (row 7): Seed st border, p1, k3, k2tog, k1, yo, p2, yo, k1, ssk, k3, p1, border.
Row 6 acts as a set up row then into the pattern on row 7 (pattern row1).
There are 2 increases (the YOs) and 2 decreases (the k2tog and the ssk) so the number of stitches stays the same as the previous row.
What is getting me is the first yarn over in row 7. When you k1 (before the yo), you would yo anyway to proceed to the p2 so my expert adviser said to wrap the yarn around the needle twice (instead of just bringing it forward as you would for any k to p stitch-which wouldn’t cause an increase). But, when I do the wrap over twice, I still end up with 24 stitches, but I am missing a hole on that side. What the heck am I doing wrong?

Thanks, I’ll try doing that!
It sounds like you are losing your YO when you go to the purl st it sounds like. Which you can pick up on the next row (where yo would be pick up bar between st and go through the open side)…When you make your YO place your finger on it to hold it on your needle as you bring your yarn back to the front for the purl stitch (don’t bring the yarn back over the needle to get to the front but more under the needle)…this should leave the YO on the needle and give you the correct sts you need
I noticed this is a really old thread but after a couple of hours I have finally charted this pattern out and made the correction. The problem is on the even rows, there needs to be 2 additional P2tog. Let me know if you like me to post the directions.
I would love to have your directions. I’m new to knitting and can’t get this figured out. I really want to make this scarf, it’s a very pretty design.
Thanks!
If there was a problem with the pattern, I think it’s been corrected. All the rows, even and odd rows, add up. Give it a try and if there are problems, come back and ask.
