This is what I get for knitting when there is a lot on my mind!
Anyway, I’m doing socks for one of my kids, so perfection isn’t a must.
Somehow I dropped a stitch off of one of the double points while joining the gusset to the top of the foot stitches, so it’s on the side. It is about 2 inches down now, and I really don’t want to rip it out to pull up that stitch. Currently it’s safety pinned. How can I secure it so it won’t unravel itself?
For the record, don’t ask me how, but I got the right number of stitches again on that one dpn.:?? I really should not knit when my mind is a million miles away.
Bring the stitch up to level with the rest of the work if you can find where you made an increase to bring the sts up to the correct amount and k2tg . Or do as Suzeeq says.
I think that being 2" down (about 12 rows or more) it’s not going to be feasible to bring it all the way up. The subsequent rows won’t have enough loose yarn to make a new st. So just going up another couple rows will be fine, then fasten it on the WS.
That is the weird thing, it doesn’t show. The yarn has nubby like colored yarns that stick out, so I probably thought it was one of those. I happened to see a small hole and found a dropped stitch.
I will bring it up as far as I can and then secure with a weave. Thanks!
If that is the case then hide it and forget it. Unless it will really bother you then you will have to do something about it. In my case it would bother me and I would bring it up. Do you knit tight or somewhat loose? If loose is the answer then bring it up otherwise hide it.
Even if you knit loose, finding enough slack in 2" of knitting to bring it all the way up is going to be difficult. It’s usually only loose for a row or 2 above the loose st, then the sts are much too close together.
When I learned to knit two socks at once, I bound off the last stitch on the last sock and went to try them on…at that point, I saw a stitch several inches down that had dropped without my realizing it! I didn’t have time at that point to fix it or do anything with it (was going to do Suzeeq’s suggestion, and just secure it). However, I put a locking stitch marker to hold it till I could get back to it.
We had a busy few days…and life went on, with me wearing the sock often. Then one day, for whatever reason, I happened to turn the sock inside out and there was the stitch marker! I couldn’t believe I never felt it while wearing the sock–I’d worn them for WEEKS!
Anyway…it’s a year or so later, and that stitch marker is still in there! :mrgreen:
