Second guessing pattern choice

Hi everyone I’m starting a new project it’s Drops Butterfly Heart Top. I’m 5 rows into pattern and I think I’m over my head with this pattern. Would like to know if anyone has worked this pattern. I’ve been knitting for about 3 years self taught and I have done a few lace patterns but this one seems really complicated. On drops website this pattern has about 10 or more pages of questions from confused knitters.

I haven’t done it but here’s a link. One approach to a challenging pattern is to have something easier to work on when it’s too much. You can ask for help here. We have some great knitters who are good at challenging patterns. Project notes on Ravelry might be helpful and with over 100 projects I’m pretty sure the pattern’s doable.

Really lovely lace on this top!
What question do you have in particular? There are several complaints about the charts on Ravelry so you’re not the only one with problems.

I did look at Ravelry and alot of frustration with pattern and people stating how confusing. Think I’ll set it aside and start fresh tomorrow morning when I’m at my best.

Mostly the charts I had them enlarged and they have the 3 different circles for yarn overs but on chart hard to tell which circle is pictured. And reading over pattern alot of remembering different steps at same time.

There’s a lot going on in the charts and the yarn overs are just one example. I sometimes color code the chart symbols in the key and then in the charts. This would help with the yarn overs at least and maybe for some of the decreases.
Enlarging the charts was a very good idea.

Sounds like a good idea might break it down alittle.

I haven’t made this pattern. I have followed several drops patterns and quite like how they are presented, maybe I m just used to them. This one is very complex though compared to many. I would say it really does have a lot going on. If you take it slowly you wil get there. It’s kne that needs a lot of concentration while working it.
I like the idea of the enlarged charts, colour coding those yarn overs is a good tip, and I would use stitch markers along the needle where you have several charts along the row.

And of course ask if you get stuck.

Thanks for advice and glad to know some here has made pattern successfully. I use drops patterns almost exclusively because I like they have link to yarn and I think drops yarn is fairly inexpensive. I’m going to get paid subscription to knitting companion. I have been thinking about getting paid version for awhile and think it will be useful for this pattern.

Knit companion is a wonderful choice. Even the free version has so many helpful features. Just being able to easily follow the charts line by line as you knit would help here.
As they say, “Knit more, frog less.”
Just in case, lifelines!

I have one more suggestion. Use a lifeline. That way, if you misinterpret a section, you’re not completely lost if you have to frog.
