Seams with furry yarn?

I’m a 3-month-old self-taught knitter. (self-taught is misleading - i’ve used amy’s videos like crazy!) i just finished the knitting part of a 12-inch teddy bear and now have a front and back. i have used the mattress stitch once before, but it was on a project where the threads of the yarn were actually visible, and this furry yarn seems to make the knitting impossible to comprehend when trying to do a seam in any way but completely random. any tips on how to use a real stitch to sew up my bear, or with a furry yarn, will it make any difference if i just sew it up blindly? thanks in advance - i’m stuck!

I say do the best you can–it won’t show. Or if you have a smoother yarn the same color, you might be able to use that.

You’re quite literate for a 3-month-old! :teehee:

I’d say try to sew it up with thread or a different yarn in a matching color. Overstitch should do okay; fluff up the fur to hide it.

Thanks for the advice, ladies! I’ll see what I can do with a cleaner yarn and just cut myself some slack!
