Seaming

Hi…I am new to this site and returned to knitting recently, after a 50 year break lol, on account of being a prospective grandma this year, twice over! I have knitted two baby blankets using Aldi’s “So Crafty” baby yarn (100% Polyester), due to vegan prospective parents! Using 8mm knitting needles, in addition to the blankets, two baby hoods were knitted separately. The hood has to be positioned in one corner of blanket, wrong sides facing, with hood and blanket to be sewn together along the two straight sides. Having never done anything like this before, could I be advised as to whether back stitch would be sufficient, or whether some other stitching would produce best result. I take it “wrong side facing” re above means hood should lie on top of the blanket, with wrong side of both hood and blanket facing me? The hood is a triangular shape, so hood base ‘point’ was where the cast on started and from row 3, the beginning of subsequent rows started sl1p, p1, yop, purl remaining stitches with the same on following row but replacing ‘purl’ with ‘knit’. This produced a stockinette edge and moving inward from there, an interlocking hole as knitting progressed to next row. Hope that made sense! I am looking to be advised on how best to sew hood and blanket together for best effect. The pattern, which was on the ‘inside’ of the wrapper surrounding each 100g of yarn bought at Aldi, does not mention seaming in its ‘making up’ instructions…only to sew the hood and blanket together. The yarn is not like wool but does provide a very soft chunky texture. Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forum and congratulations to the new grandma!
The blankets will be so soft and lovely in this yarn.
With wrong sides facing means that the 2 wrong sides should face each other. It’s like the blanket shown here.

However, you can seam these pieces in which ever way you prefer. I think that a whip stitch along the edges might work best since this is an exposed seam as given in the pattern. One alternative is this seam.

If you have a thinner yarn that is compatible you might find it easier to use than the So Crafty.

Thank you so much for your response which I have only come across on checking my emails tonight. Your very much appreciated advice is in line with that given to me at a knitting group this afternoon!..having only visited it once before, a few weeks ago. It is not right on my doorstep but today took the bull by the horns, so to speak, and was very lucky to find people happy to help. I completed seaming one hood while there, using whip stitch…first of all with white wool. In actual fact, due to having left a long tail as advised in pattern, I actually preferred using that! Think that after knitting the two blankets, I had eventually become used to working with the yarn…and in fact found it easier than the wool…with what I felt was a better finish. However, I will be attaching the second hood tomorrow so will watch the video you suggested first, with interest. This knitting bug may become a habit on account of impending gran duties lol…so again, thank you for much appreciated advice…every day is a school day!
