Ack, I feel so dumb for asking this, but…

If a pattern calls for one skein, and then says to cast on the stitches with two strands of the yarn, how exactly do you do that? Do you unroll the skein so that you have both ends together, and then knit?

some people knit from the inside and outside of the skein. i am more inclined to either get a second skein or to divide it into two balls and do it that way.

You should be able to use one end from the outside, and pull the other one out from the center.
