Saxon Braid Poncho

Well it is done! I took the braid pattern from samus on knitty, and turned it into this poncho for my mum. I am really hoping it will fit her! The color is really more emerald than you can see from the pictures but it gives an idea.

I LOVE the Saxon Braid–it is my favorite cable pattern. You did excellent work with it!

GORGEOUS!!! You did a fantastic job…well done

WOW! FABULOUS! :inlove: How long did you make it? And how long did it take you to make. I’ve got two weeks to make something for my mom’s b-day and this looks like something she might like.

It would depend on how many hours you want to knit for and how fast a kniter you are it took me about 3 months but I only knit this while listening to audiobooks and there were long waits in between. It took one Harry potter book and one Bill Brysons a short history of everything, so however long that is lol.

The pattern is easy it is 13 stitches in stockinette followed by one set of the braid on shamus (on then 13 stockinette another braid and 15 stockinette. I used size 6 mm needles which worked well for the wool I used but more than the gage you want the wool to end up with a nice drapping softness, I am making another one in red at the moment and the wool is thicker and I am using 7mm, ponchos arent fussy.

I went on for about 137cm, as long as I felt I could get away with without making the neck huge but I might have streched the bottom bit out more to sew it on, with the drape of the material it might have looked quite arty and made it possible for me to make it larger. Anways, let me know if you have other questions

Thanks for the info. I’m a pretty fast knitter but I don’t know if I that fast.
