Saturday Market Bag

I have tried at least 10 times to get this sticth pattern–and for whatever reason I just cannot do it. This is the pattern for the Saturday Market Bag from Magknits. I know some posters here made it, so hopefully someone can help me. I know “how” to each of these instructions individually, but somehow cannot put them all together. I cannot even get row 1 down.

Lace Background Stitch -
Row 1 – (RS) – k1 yo, sl 1, k1, yo, psso the knit st and the following yo; repeat from
Row 2 – P2, drop the yo from the proceeding row; rep from end p1.
Row 3 – K2, rep from * of Row 1, end k1.
Row 4 – P3 * drop the yo from the proceeding row, P2; rep from*

Thanks,
Candice

What, exactly, are you having a problem with? Getting the right # of stitches to come out? How many do you initially cast on?

The pattern is here.

I don’t know exactly what I am doing wrong, but am guessing my YOs are not right.

Row 1 – (RS) – k1 yo, sl 1, k1, yo, psso the knit st and the following yo; repeat from

I knit 1 stitch, wrap yarn around needle counterclockwise ending up in front again, slip on stitch purlwise, knit 1, bring yarn to front (yo), pass slipped stitch over the knit stitch and the yo.

This last bit of passing the slipped stitch over the knit stitch and yo is confusing to me and I am guessing that I am doing the yo incorrectly.

Candice

When you do the YOs, you are right when you bring the yarn around the right hand needle counter clockwise, but it needs to end up in the back when you start the next set of stitches. When you PSSO to include the YO make sure that the working yarn is held behind it.

If you can’t get it let me know and I’ll make a video for you to show how it is done.

For a YO you don’t just move your yarn to the front, you have to wrap over the top of the needle to the back, just as if you were making a knit stitch.

Thanks. I am going to try it again tonight. I had been using some really thin Hempathy yarn and am going to stop on my way home to get the cotton fleece. Thank you for the offer of the video–I may have to take you up on it!

Candice

Yeah! I got it! It turns out I was over zealous with that final YO on row 1. I was actually making 2 stitches. Have done 6 repeats of the pattern now and am enjoying my cotton fleece. It’s a little splitty, but the bright yellow my 2 year old picked out is cheery.

:cheering: :cheering: :cheering: I’m so glad you got it Candice!!! I can’t wait to see your FO!
