Look under the Free Videos tab at the top of this page, Cast On and try the knitted cast on. Put the needle with sts on it in your left hand and cast on the 3 new sts. When you get to the end of the row, turn the work and again with the needle in your left hand, cast on 3 sts.
To cast on at the beginning of a row, use the knit or cable cast on.
I know how to cast on three stitches. I can reach 15 stitches. But then, I knit the row, then purl the next row, and cast on three again?
No, you should cast on 3sts and then work to the end of the row, turn the work and cast on 3sts, and work to the end of that row. The next directions are to cast off 3sts at the beginning of the next 2 rows and that happens the same way: cast off 3, work to the end of the row, cast off 3, work to the end of the row. When you fold the arm in half lengthwise, the 2 thumbs will line up together to be sewn.
What do u mean when you use the word “work”?
Sorry to be confusing. I mean do whatever stitch the row calls for. If it’s a knit row, knit to the end; if it’s a purl row, purl to the end.
I think I know how to do it now. Thank you!
Referring to these lines:
WORK FINGERS: LITTLE FINGER
Next row K7, turn and work on these sts only.
Next row P3, turn and work on these sts only.
Next row Knit.
How can I do it?
This sackboy is harder than I thought.
Turn literally means just to turn the work as if you were at the end of a row. Follow the directions at this point and don’t worry about extra sts left on the needle. You’ll get back to them later.
When it says on the next row to knit, you will only be knitting the 3sts for the little finger. Then when the directions say to break the yarn and thread it through the sts on the needle, it means the same 3 sts.
These small projects are always more interesting than you think but they are a good way to learn.
Ok. I K7 then I pass all the remain 5 stitches to the needle in the right hand without working on them? Im confused.
No, k7 onto the right hand needle. Turn the knitting by putting the right hand needle into your left hand. Purl 3sts onto the right needle. Again put the right hand needle into your left hand and knit the 3sts. Now you’re up to the directions to cut the yarn leaving about a 40inch tail. Use the tail to thread through the 3sts taking them off the needle, and draw them tightly up, then stitch down the side of the pinky.
Don’t worry about the other sts left on the needles. You’ll get to them in turn as you knit each of the fingers.
Im confused in the third row when it says knit and it doesn’t specify the stitches. I thought I have to knit the whole row.
Just knit the 3sts. It isn’t clear in the pattern but that’s what they want. Just work on the pinky at this point.
Thank you so much! The arm and hand is done and it looks amazing thanks to you.
Great! You’re the one who did it. Now hold that thought, there’s a second arm and hand.
I read that question way too early in the morning without coffee. Sackboy help needed. I’m reading the byline thinking Desperate Housewives and the pool boy but with a bagger from a supermarket instead. I really need to get out more often.
