What does this mean? I thought it meant slip 11 stitches onto the right hand needle then continue to the last 4 and turn but when I come to the next line I have this length of yarn stretching across the 11 stitches it can’t be right can it? It’s on the collar of a baby jacket unfortunately it’s a printed photocopy of a pattern so o pattern number. Any advice welcome
The context is:-
Knit to last 4 sts. Turn
S11k. Knit to last 4 sts. Turn
S11k. Knit to last 8 sts. Turn
S11k. Knit to last 12 sts. Turn
S11k. Knit to last 16 sts. Turn
S11k. Knit to last 20 sts. Tur
S11k. Knit to end of row across all sts.
Cast off
You’re to slip 1, that’s an L after the S. The k could mean knitwise. Does your pattern have an instruction about it? Can you link to your pattern?
Are you familiar with short rows? This is a short rows section of your pattern.
Unfortunately there are no stitch instructions it’s a printed photocopy from the Internet there is just a picture. I have knit the whole jacket but when I come to the collar that is the instruction.
So does it mean slip one stitch then knit to the last 4 and turn. And if its an ‘l’ then I still don’t understand the ‘l’ ?
That’s really great thanks I get what you’re saying now, the sl are together so it’s sl1 I feel stupid now you have explained it. Thanks so much for the help its greatly appreciated.
There’s no need to feel stupid. Nobody reads knitting fluently at the start and as I said, I still tend to click that Glossary button often. Are you OK with the short rows?
Probably not. I guess I was just going to turn where it says turn and knit back until I get to the last row where I knit all the stitches but I probably have this wrong too.
You got it right. You’re doing better than you think. I asked because short rows tend to hang people up the first time they meet them. I remember my first time with short rows. I do hope you’ll post a picture of your sweater.
