Hello, I’m currently knitting a purse and considering my “newb-ness” all was going well until I couldn’t figure out the pattern (yeah, I know that’s a first).
The pattern reads:
RNDS 1-2: Knit
RND 3: *k82, sl2, [k1,p1] 6 times, k1 p2, k1, [p1,k1] 6 times, sl2; rep from * once more.
RND 4: Knit
RNDS 5-10: Rep Rnds 3-4 three times.
RND 11: *k2tog, k78, SSK, sl2, [k1,p1] 6 times, k1, p2, k1, [p1, k1] 6 times, sl2: rep from * once more.
RNDS 12-19: work even in patt as est, slipping the 2 corner sts on every other rnd and working the ribbing as est for the side panels on every rnd.
.
.
.
The nightmare begins at “RNDS 12-19”, I have no clue what is the pattern “established” and which 2 corner stitches I have to slip… :whoosh:
The pattern as established is what you have just knitted: rows 1-11.I believe the 2 corner stitches means to continue slipping the 2 stitches in the pattern that I have bolded.
I am really trying here to understand your answer. I get now the slipping stitches that you kindly bolded but the rounds… when you say 1-11, that makes… 11, and 12-19 are 8 rounds. So which ones should I repeat?
Eeek, you’re right. Sorry I hadn’t noticed that. Is this a free pattern that you could post a link to? Even if you leave out the first 2 rows, and repeat 3-11, that doesn’t add up.There is a chance that it’s just an error when they wrote 12-19. If you could post the link or the name of the pattern some one may be able to help more. You might also want to look and see if this pattern has any errata.
Are you on Ravelry yet? If you are you can look up the pattern there and see what people have said about it. If not let me know the name of the pattern and I would be glad to look it up for you.
That’s awesome Lieuvena!. And no, I’m not there yet. I’ll look it up and join . I got the pattern from Jennifer Stafford’s book: Domiknitrix
The name of the purse is Homegrown. I already looked up the website for erratas on this pattern and there aren’t notes or anything in it about this one.
I’ll look it up on Ravelry then. Thank you very very much Lieuvena. You would make an excellent Jiminy Cricket.
I looked it up and believe it or not, I can’t find it there! I posted a question about it for you on the forums over there and will let you know if anyone’s got any ideas.
To work rounds 12-19, you would repeat rounds 4-11. Rnd 4 is one that comes right after a shaping round which is 3; round 11 is also a shaping round. The pattern seems to be a bunch of sts in stockinette, then sets of ribbed sts (k1, p1 6 times) and slip the corner sts on a couple of rows. Is there a picture of the FO somewhere? It might be useful to know if you continue to dec all the way up, or if it’s just on the bottom end.
Okay, looks like the ribbed sections form the gusset, or sides of the bag and the upper part seems slightly smaller than the bottom. So yeah, repeat rows 4-11 and that should do it.
I was thinking you only dec on rows 3 and 11; forgot that you repeat rows 3 and 4, which would mean more decs. So I’m not too sure you’d want to do the decs on 12-19, that would make it too narrow. And it doesn’t say to continue the decreasing, just the ‘pattern as established’ which is the stitch pattern of stockinette on the 2 sides and ribbing on the small sides.
Yes, you don’t do anymore decs after row 11. The instructions say to ‘work even in st patt as est’ which means keep the st number the same, while continuing the stitch pattern. So for row 13 and all other odd numbered rows, you’d knit as you have it written above.
