S.o.s.! problems with simple stitch pattern?

I’m knitting a Poncho pattern — co on 30.
row1: (rs) k1, *yo, ktog; repeat from * to last stitch, k1.
row2: purl
row3: k2, *yo, ktog; repeat from * to end of row.
row4: purl.

a very simple pattern —but, my stitch pattern is off every couple of rows.
I count my sitches and I’m off by one stitch. I thought that maybe I was picking up a stitch somewhere—

In row 1 should I yo before the last stitch? Any ideas as to what I could be doing wrong? If I’m being sloppy I’m doing it consistently!!

Thanks, (great to be back --katrina survivor!)

Welcome back! I hope things are coming together for you.

I tried to figure this on paper, and to maintain 30 stitches, I would say not to yo before the last stitch, so you would end with 3 knits.

On the third row, you start the row with k2 and end it with k2.

My only thought is that either you’re missing a yo somewhere or not getting both stiches on the k2tog. Another thing to watch for is to make sure you’re not knitting two together at the beginning of row 3. That might happen because there is so much k2tog elsewhere.
