Here is a hat I made for a dear friend’s first grandbaby based on the pattern called “A Little Hat”. I can’t wait to see it on her.
Needles: sz 9 circulars (2 pair)
Yarn: Debbie Bliss Alpaca Silk, Colour 25009
The flower I added was based on Paton’s “fabulous felted flowers” pattern- I used the pattern for the small petals only.
Time: ~1 to 1 1/2 days to knit at my pace.
What I learned/tips to share: I think I’d prefer the rose flower pattern that the original author used for this hat. If I knit it again that’s what I plan on trying. The Paton’s flower pattern is a bit too floppy for my taste with this hat.
Mama Bear, Whoops, sorry 'bout that - just caught that I left off the kind of Debbie Bliss. It was Alpaca Silk that I had left from another project. I am happy you shared how yours fit and looked on baby. What type yarn of yarn did you use to make yours?
I used Jaeger Matchmaker Merino since it’s machine washable. It wouldn’t matter for the hat, since baby hats don’t need washed often but since I was making the booties also, I figued it might be a good idea.
This was the hat my granddaughter wore the most until she started to outgrow it. Then I made a baby sized tychus from knitty for her with a some Peruvian silk (80% baby alpaca 20% silk) along with some cashmere. Obviously not machine washable LOL… but it fits like a dream.
