Rowan Sleeve Help

Okay I am back with more questions…

I have finished the front and back of my sweater. I am now on to my sleeves. Almost finished the first one but I am confused. I am supposed to finish all of my increases by 46 cm so I can start decreasing But I have gotten way past the 46 cm point (almost 52cm) and have yet to finish my increases.

Here is the pattern: XS sleeves

Beg and ending rows as indicated and rep 16 row patt rep throughout, cont in patt from chart for sleeves, shaping sides by inc 1 st at each end of 7th and every following 8th row until there are 68 sts, then on every following 10th row until there are 84 sts, taking inc into pattern.
Cont straight until sleeve measures 46 cm ending with RS facing for next row.

Shape top:
Keeping patt correct, cast off 4 sts at beg of next 2 rows 76 sts
Dec 1 st at each end of next 5 rows, then on following 2 alt rows, then on every following 4th row until 50 sts rem.
Work 1 row ending with rs facing
Dec 1 st at each end of the next and every following alt row to 24 sts, then on following row, ending with RS facing for next row. 40 sts.
Cast off 5 sts at beg of next 2 rows
Cast off rem 30 sts, dec 10 sts evenly

Im not really sure if i should rip back to 46 cm and then just start shaping the top without ever getting to the 84 sts they want you to have?? I would need to complete 6 more increases total (every 10th alt row) which would make my sleeve crazy long.

I have noticed that the sleeves seem kind of bulky in the arm pits on ppl who have finished it on Ravelry so perhaps not getting to 84 sts wide is a good thing?

Or should I follow the instructions for the small sleeves which increase more often at the end of the 5th, every following 6th until 68 sts, every following 8th until 86 sts, cont to 46 cm.

 • this seems more logical, but also means i need to rip my entire sleeve out…

the sleeves are similar to this

did you check your tension before you started? because if you knit very loosely then your work could be longer than the pattern intends.

Ya I did check and it seems to be correct. So I’m not sure what’s going on with it :frowning:

So if you find, in my case, that following the suggested rows to increase is making your sleeve far to long before reaching the stitch count I should be increasing more often?

What if I’ve reached the measurement the pattern calls for but not the stitch count? I should rip out and start over?

It just sucks cause I’ve done so much of my sleeve :frowning:

Just to check, you are increasing at each end of the row (2sts increased per increase row)?
Check the width of your sleeve and see if it’s the width given in the schematic for the sleeve at or near the armhole bind off or the top of the sleeve. If there isn’t a schematic figure out how many sts you should have at one of the above points and use the stitch gauge to calculate the width.
If you’ve got the width in inches then you’re ok (you may need to adjust the sleeve cap ahaping is there’s a cap). If not than you’ll need to rip back to some earlier point in the sleeve and make more frequent increases. It’s painful but better to recognize it now, for sure.

ETA: There’s a corrections for the neckband on this sweater here

thanks so much! I will try out your suggestions they are super helpful

ya I’ve seen the neckband corrections luckily before I have started it! Another user on ravelry indicated that she thought there were mistakes in it so I checked the patterns website.
