Rowan Skyler - neckband help

Hi everyone,

I’m knitting the Rowan Skyler top and I’m confused by the pattern for making the neckband.

Here are the instructions (and image attached):

Join right shoulder seam using mattress stitch or back stitch if
preferred.
Neckband
With RS facing using 3.75mm (US 5) needles and yarn A, pick up
and knit 46 [50: 52: 56: 60: 64: 66: 70: 72] sts down left front neck,
pick up and knit 46 [50: 52: 56: 60: 64: 66: 70: 72] sts up right front
neck, pick up and knit 46 [50: 52: 56: 60: 64: 66: 70: 72] sts down
right back neck, and then pick up and knit 46 [50: 52: 56: 60: 64: 66:
70: 72] sts up left back neck. 184 [200: 208: 224: 240: 256: 264:
280: 288] sts
Next row (WS): Purl.
Next row: Cast off knitwise.
Join left shoulder and neckband seam.

So, I pick up and knit 50 stitches each down left front neck, up right front neck, down right back neck and then up left back neck? 200 stitches seems a lot to hold on straight needles? But it never says to use circular needles and says the pattern only requires 1 set of straight needles. What length would they need to be to hold 200 stitches?

Thanks for any help! Rowan skylar

Welcome to KH!
Great looking top and you’re at the very last steps. I’d go to a 32" or 36" circular needle despite such a needle not being listed in the pattern. Very long needles are so cumbersome anyway.

Great, thank you! I’ll switch to circular needles then.

It’s the first time I’ve knitted a neckband, let’s see how it goes!
