Rowan 20 Vest Confusion

I am very confused about a pattern I have. I am relatively new to knitting. This is my first sweater attempt. I feel like I am missing something. I am making a sweater vest. I am at the Armholes. The pattern shows:

Cast off 3 sets at beg of next 2 rows [143] sts. – I did this and have 143.

Dec 1 st at each end of next 5 rows, then on foll 7 alt rows. [119] sts.

This is where I am confused. I have 143, but the decreases do not reduce it from 143 to 119. That would be 24 stitches decreased. The instructions are for 5 + ?. I assume the 7 alternating gives me 7 decreases. That means 5 + 7 is only 12, not 24.

What am I missing on this?

You need to decrease 1st each end of next 5 rows 5x2 - 10 st

Than at 7 alt rows 7x2 - 14

That is 24 st

Row 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, 15, 17, 19 dec on each end.

Have a fun with your knitting. If you need anything else just jump back and ask, somone will answer.

I find when I’m stuck like this, it often helps to read the pattern line out loud. It causes me to slow down and read every single word, and I usually find I’ve hopped over something when reading silently.
