I just got a new book of dishcloth designs, and it has left twists and right twists. I understand the left twist, but I’m not too sure about the right twist.
It reads: K2tog making sure not to drop off, then knit the first st letting both sts drop off the needle.
Could someone please break this down for me?
Sharice:??
knit 2 together then knit into the first stitch you just knit together. Hope this helps
You would K2tog as normal and leave the 2 original loops on the left needle. Move the right needle with the new stitch and slip the tip into the 1st stitch of the K2 tog and knit it and then slide both of the stitches off the left needle. You will still have the same # of stitches you started with and you will have made a 2 stitch cable.
I think I have that same dishcloth pattern book.
The above instructions are exactly right, but there is another “right twist” that might be easier on your brain. Crossing in front of the first stitch on the left needle, knit into the second stitch on the left needle, don’t drop the stitch off, then knit into the first stitch as normal. Drop both stitches off.
Enjoy your washcloths! They are a great way to master new patterns, techniques and stitches.
