I am doing some "log cabin’ knitting and I don’t know how to identify the right or wrong side as it is all knitting…I know this should be a simple matter but both sides look the same…
I look at my cast-on edge to try to find it and then sometimes I just cheat and “decide” which one is the right side. :teehee:
Then I put a locking marker on that side so I can at least stay consistent from then on.
But in all honesty - I’ve never been able to tell w/o looking for the tail left from casting on.
Does it matter?
well it matters with the log cabin knitting because when you change color you want the little “stich” looking side to be on the wrong side…now about the cast on tail…how does looking at the “tail” let you know which side is which?
If you do a long-tail cast-on you can see which side your “tail” is on. First row your tail is on the right side of your work so if you are looking at your work and the tail is on the right then you know it is the right side.
It took me years of knitting to figure that out! :teehee:
Hope this helps!

Renee! i think that did it for me…I also printed out your reply…now I shall try it with a dish cloth before I start my big log cabin blanket! Thanks so much… :cheering:
So after you pick the right side, add your next “log” then it will be obvious which side is the right as it will not have the little ridge you get from picking up sts… :teehee:
Good advice…along with the others I should be able to master this…I would like to make a log cabin blanket as they are pretty and just knitting on and on! no rows to count , actually no stiches to count! Thanks
