Right from Wrong Side?

How do I tell my right side from my wrong side? I’ve got a K1,P1 on my needle, and both sides look the same to me. Pattern (two needle mittens)
just said knit for x inches then on right side knit a full row, but as I said
both sides look the same at this point. I did leave my starting tail on though, should it hang from the left on right on the RS?

Hope that was clear,
Mott

Whatever side you knit will be your right side. The ribbing is the same on both sides, so if you feel it’s long enough, then knit the next row and consider that your right side.

Thanks a million!

When I do an item with the stockinette stitch I do use the tail as a reminder of which side is RS or WS.

After cast on and holding the needles as though I’m ready to knit the tail yarn ends up at the point to the left needle. Since the next row is the purl stitch, the WS is facing me. So whenever the tail yarn is hanging below the needle tip it is the WS, and when it is hanging underneath the end of needle (no point) then the RS is facing me.

If I wasn’t so lazy I probably would take a small safety pin and pin it to the RS so I would know which side it was.

Hopefully this makes sense & I hope it helps!
