Rib to Seed stitch

I want to knit a pattern for a hat that uses rib knitting (k1, p1) for the first 8 rows and then seed stitch (k1,p1) for the remainder.
But I don’t understand one something. If the rib pattern that I use is K1 P1 and then I seed stitch K1 P1, how will it turn look different? Is there a difference in the way I bring my yarn around to purl? I really don’t understand.
I consider myself a little past beginner as far as knitting goes. Also, I plan to use circular needles instead of DPN.
THANKS!

Are you knitting in the round?

When doing ribbing in the round you knit the knits, and purl the purls.

When you do seed stitch you will need to alternate evey other row, thereby knitting the purls, and purling the knits. So, the first row would be k1p1k1p1, but when you come back around you would p1k1p1k1.

It may also be that you dec or inc a stitch so you don’t have to make any adjustments as ribbing needs to be done on an even number of stitches and seed st works better in the round on an odd number. But even when knitting flat you also knit the knit sts and purl the purls for ribbing, and do the opposite for seed stitch - purl the knits and knit the purls. This refers to how the sts look on the row you work on, not how you did them the previous row. Look at the video and pictures in this thread for how to do ribbing and tell the sts apart.
