I am working on a rib row and it is not coming out right, it reads:

Next Row (WS) *K1, p1; rep from * across, dec 1 st at center of back (161 sts).

Next row K6, "p1, k1; rep from * to last 5 sts, k5. Continue in pat as established until band measures 2: continuing buttonholes as necessary. Bind off in pat.

I have done the WS side with no problem. The next row I end up with 6 sts which will be K at the end.

On the return row do I knit 6 then start with purl, or do I knit 5 and start with purl? Am confused.

Next row K6, "p1, k1; rep from * to last 5 sts, k5.
The way it is written there should be 6 knits at each end. At the beginning of the row you acheive that by knitting 6 and then doing the next stitch as a purl. At the end it should end up with the rib sequence coming out P1, K1 and 5 stitches beyond that. Since the last of the P1, K1 sequence is a knit and then the 5 knits that puts 6 knits together just like at the other side.
