Rib decision paralysis

Hello,

I’m making telly bean knits glide cowl for my sister for Christmas. I made one for myself (well same shape but different pattern) and the rib is very flippy on that one.

The pattern doesn’t suggest smaller needles for the rib but that’s what I’ve normally seen in patterns so should I got down just a size to help with the flip or go down a full mm? I’m using a 4mm needle with DK yarn.

I also saw Patty Lyon’s had a tip to slip all of the knit stitches on the first row of rib to help. Has anyone tried that? I don’t know if to just try one of the solutions or if to do both at once. I don’t know if it’s overkill to do both.

Thanks so much everyone! Once again :joy:

I’ve used Patty Lyons trick and found that it does help with the flip from stockinette. The rib is not as stretchy as without the slip sts but you may not need all that much stretch.
You could try this method on a swatch and also the same method with a smaller needle and see which you prefer.

Thanks so much @salmonmac! I think I’ll have to do a swatch and see. I don’t know if to make it drape over the shoulders a little more stretch might be important.
