Reversible cables

I saw this pattern for a reversible cabled scarf
http://cache.lionbrand.com/patterns/50368.html

I’m wondering what makes it reversible? I’ve heard of double knitting - is this an example of it?

It’s a very cool idea…

I think it’s just that cables are worked on both the right side and the wrong side of the scarf, in alternating ‘columns’ similar to how ribbing is done.

Didn’t one of our members design that scarf?? Anyone know?

I found it, here ya go…that pattern was designed by our very own Yvonne! :cheering:

Wow, very cool that one of us designed that! I like the crossover thing you are knitting, and the one above it looks really neat too.

On needles: my first pair of socks, using 2 circs and knitting both socks at once! Someone told me she does not like to knit socks this way unless she wants to go really fast - I guess I don’t have that problem, it has taken me all day to achieve 3"!

I’m just excited that anyone wants to make this!

Designing something puts you in a somewhat vulnerable place, because from the moment it’s published you live in fear of seeing it on “You Knit What?!” LOL.

Now you’ve got to post pics when you finish it so I can see it.

You reminded me by say that, that I’m no longer knitting that crossover top. It just wasn’t working out how I pictured it. I’ve updated my signature!

And Yvonne, I don’t think your scarf will EVER end up in the “You knit WHAT??” category. It’s so beautiful and classy looking, I’m sure everyone who makes it will love it!

Yvonne,

It’s funny that there is another thread going about your famous reversible scarf. I did a search for your other post and found this one.

I think its great that you are getting the attention you deserve!!!

I was wondering what other yarn besides the Lion Cashmere Blend Navy that I could use–I couldn’t find it at Hobby Lobby. I found this http://cache.lionbrand.com/yarns/koolwool.htm and was wondering if you think it’d work. Or what would you recommend?

I haven’t checked at JoAnn’s or WalMart, yet. Do either of them carry it?

I’m excited that I can actually asked the designer. :happydance:

Thanks!

LOL. I haven’t seen the Cashmere Blend in a store yet myself.
You can be confident to substitute any worsted weight soft yarn you want. It’s not like exact gauge matters so much with a scarf. Actually, I don’t see why you can’t use any yarn you like as long as you use needles appropriate to that yarn.
Someone else had asked about the possibility of using Plymouth Encore, and I said sure to that too.
Just remember that you can’t really skimp on the yardage, as cables eat yarn and this has cables on both sides.
However, it’s incredibly warm and squishy.
I made a pink one for them as well; I don’t know why that one isn’t in the photo on the LB website.

Thanks for the quick reply Yvonne.

I think I’ll have to run back to HB and get the Kool Wool since it was on sale.

I can’t wait to get started on it. I will be knitting it in secret for DH. But I must get shell baby afghan done first, darn. A little on the afghan, a little on the scarf.

Kool Wool is a fatter yarn than the Cashmere Blend, so just use the needles recommended for KW and expect a bigger scarf. I think it would be kind of cool with big fat cables. Post a picture when you finish it.
You know, it might look neat in a variegated yarn, too.

Yeah, I noticed that Kool Wool is considered bulky and suggested using a size 10.5. DH is a tall guy but that might be a little too wide.

I’m going to keep looking around for the Cashmere Blend or something similar. I’ll keep you posted on the progress.
