Returning to an old, unfinished project

A few years ago I knitted a shrug, but had difficulty making it up as the instructions in the pattern were rather vague. I put the project to one side in favour of others I was working on, but recently decided to have another go. I’m still not sure how to get it looking like the one in the diagram, but have got one sleeve sewn in and seamed, one side seamed and the other sleeve partly sewn in. The result of that is a piece of fabric folded over lengthwise, ie cast on edge to cast off edge, with a sleeve at each end of the fold. The trick seems to be to manipulate the article into a shrug that can be worn.

Any ideas, anyone? I’ll be having another go once I’ve finished the sewing up part.

What is your question? Do you want to know how to seam? If you have a link and/or pattern name so we can visualize easier it would help.

(I moved this because it seems to be more of a question than a WIP.)

Hi! :waving:

Sometimes it helps if you take the image of the finished piece out of your head and put it on paper!

Get some graph paper or sketch paper and start just roughly sketching in the shape of the pieces you’re trying to put together. You might even cut them out like we did in the “old days” with paper dolls and doll clothes! (That was just before Noah built the ark! :chair: )

Once you’ve got a sketch of the pieces and they’re cut out, start taping them together. Then bend them into the shape you want, stick a bit of tape to hold them in shape and go from there to work out how to put the rest together.

I’ve found it so much easier to take the time to get something visual out there in front of my eyes instead of having it kind of spin around behind them!

Good luck and let us know how it goes!

I do not have trouble with joining the seams. I have sewn both sleeves in and sewn the sleeve and side seams on one side and part of the other sleeve seam.

What I am not sure about is how to get the finished article looking like the one in the pattern, but I’ll have a good look at it when I finish all the seams and if I still can’t figure it out I’ll email Sirdar - the email address is given on the pattern.

Problem solved! All I had to do was put it on lol.

Will post a photo asap
