Rejoining on thumb knitted in the round

I need help! I am making a mitten knitted in the round–I’ve used the 2 circular method and have finished the hand of the mitten with no problem. But, now I’m stuck-- I need to pick up and knit 1 stitch over the gap and join. Now, no matter how I place the circular needles, the thumb looks like I’m purling. (It looks wrong side out, if that makes sense). What am I doing wrong? 11 little stitches, and I can’t get it. With the 2 circular method, which needle do I use to pick up the 1 stitch at the gap, and why does it look like I’m going the wrong way? I am very frustrated and have worked on this for about 2 hours. Can someone explain this to me please?

Are your needles closest to you? It’s hard for me to picture. If you can’t seem to get it right, how about purling so it will come out correctly in appearance.

I honestly don’t know-- and I can’t remember how to purl in the round.

Thanks,

I started purling and it’s coming out right. Thanks, Ingrid–I was so frustrated that I didn’t even think of that. You saved my day!

I’m glad it worked!
