Regarding Pattern for Elongated Knit Stick Scarf

pattern reads:odd rows: k3, k5, p5, k5, k3
even rows: k3, p5, k5, p5, k3

why cant you:odd rows: k8, p5, k8???

It’s so you can “see” the pattern you’re making. Technically, you’re doing k8, p5, k8 on the odd rows. But the first and last k3 are part of a different section of pattern. The k5, p5, k5 (or p5, k5, p5 on even rows) are creating ribbing. Whereas the k3’s on every row are creating sections of garter stitch on either side of the scarf as border stitches.

Gotcha! Thanks!
