Reading patterns

Does anyone have any tips on how to understand/read patterns. THere are TONS of things i want to make and i’m just a knitting pattern illiterate(sp):eyes: . Everything i’ve made its very basic knitting and purling and it’s usually a square or rectangle…thats it…and the sweater that i’m trying to make now i’m just winging it. Any advice. :help:

Take a look at the Abbreviations Explained tab from this website:
http://www.onlyslippers.com/womens-slippers/all-womens-slippers/products.cfm?action=view&key=ACR020 It explains many things that you would find in a knitting pattern, and many have videos to go along with them.

And of course if you run into something that has you completely stumped, just ask here - there’s always people willing to help.

Oh, how true…

That’s why I  this place.

Easier than taking a class.

I took a class to get started and that helped so much. Now I look through the pattern and find simple ones. Things I don’t understand I look up here. The Abbreviations Explained tab is great.

I started really making very simple dishcloths. After the second one I was more daring and confident. Now after I’ve done a handful more projects, I’m branching out into even more complicated patterns. I’ve gotten lost a few times and the help here is great!

I have to ask… is this the link you meant to put here???

Could be she meant this one – http://www.knittinghelp.com/knitting/abbreviations_explained/

Oh brother… …so embarrassed. Sometimes I forget to ‘copy’ what I want to link, and then the previous thing comes up without me noticing. So sorry!! :hiding:

Yeah, happens to me too… Good thing we knew which one you meant!
