Reading patterns

Hello, I’ve been knitting for years and I pick up my knitting needles on and off throughout the year. This year I’ve been busy with my first child who is 9 months. I want to knit my little boy a cardigan and I just can’t get my head round this particular part of a pattern. I’ve read it to myself over and over again in my mind, out loud, even to my partner who just shrugged and carried on reading his book! Please help xxx

“Dec 1 st at each end of next and 5 foll 4th rows, then on foll 10 alt rows. 20 st.”

It’s probably easy to understand but my brain is just not computing the information. Can somebody please help break it down for me.

Hi Param, On the next row you will decrease 1 st at each end of the row. Work the following 3 rows then decrease as before on the 4th row. Repeat this another 4 times .
Then you start to decrease every other row 10 times and you should end up with 20 sts on your needles.
Hope this helps.
