I’m fairly new to knitting, so far have used books which break down the steps so am now venturing into trying to read knitting patterns. I’m knitting a cardigan, have completed the first section which is the back of the cardigan. Am now onto the front left section and confused by the instructions which are as follows (I’m doing the first size so smallest size):
LEFT FRONT
Cast on 12 (15: 18: 21) st.
Beg with K row, cont in st st as folls:
Work 1 row.
Inc 1 st at beg of next row and at same edge on foll 8 rows, then on 2 foll 3rd rows and at same time shaping side seam by inc 1 st at beg of 4th (8th: 8th: 12th) and foll 6th (-: -: -) row.
25 (27: 30: 33) sts.
Inc 1 st at side seam edge of - (next: next: 9th) row. 25 (28: 31: 34) sts.
Cont straight until left front matches back to beg of raglan.
So my interpretation is…
Cast on 12 stitches
Knit 1st row then continue in stocking stitch increasing alternate first stitch and last stitch of rows so the increases all fall on the same side, on rows 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 13, 16
Whilst also remembering to increase both ends of row on rows 4 and 10… should leave me with 25 stitches
The next part I’m totally confused about. What does - mean?
