OK, another gauge question from me! Hopefully it will be the last one - at least for a little while! How do you read a cable gauge? do you read it on the right side or wrong side? Where the cables cross? I have noooo clue! I have swatched the St st and the gauge is spot on, hopefully this is too, otherwise I just don’t know what I will do!
Does the pattern say to swatch the cable too? Most of them are given for stockinette only, figuring if you get gauge for that, you’ll get it for the cable pattern too. But you would count the sts on the RS, just don’t try to count the individual sts. You know the cable is 4 or 6 or 8 sts, so figure them all as one, plus whatever stitches you need on either side of it for 4". If gauge is 18 sts/4" and your cable is 6 sts, then put the cable in the middle of the part you measure and count that as 6 sts, plust the 6 sts on either side of it.
I was really surprised to see it, but yeah, it asks for a swatch gauge for the cable - 28st cable panel = 61/2"/16.5cm. And it looks spot on, as far as I can see. Yay! Now I can FINALLY get the ball rolling in this project!:woohoo:
