Reading a pattern

I am currently knitting “Rainy Day fingerless gloves” taken from Knit magazine, fall/winter, 2008.
I am confused about following the chart for the pattern. I assume that I need to double the stitches shown in order to accomplish the total number of stitches for both sides of the glove. I am having difficulty realizing where to stop and start the pattern. I have placed a marker, but don’t know if I should start from left to right each time.
Hope this makes sense to someone;) !

There should be a set of sts that have a heavier line around them or one in a different color - something to indicate that you repeat the sts within them. If you’re knitting in the round, read all lines from R to L; if you’re knitting flat, read the RS rows R to L, but the WS row from L to R.

Or you might repeat the whole chart if the number doubled would give you the total you have. Directionally do it as Sue said.

I was so happy to get an immediate response to my question about reading a pattern. It was very helpful.

Would someone explain the KPK directive for knitting. The directions say that it means (k1, p1,k1 tbl) which means "through back loop, all into next st.
I do not understand. Thank you for your consideration.

Knit into the st, leave it on the needle, bring the yarn to the front and purl into the st, then take the yarn back and knit into the back loop.

What Sue said. When you knit into the back of that stitch you will be working behind the left needle and you move your right needle into the stitch from right to left, it may feel more like a purl, because of the needle direction.
