My pattern reads: k1 p1 (k3 p3) 4 times, knit to end.
Does this mean I knit the (k3 p3) four times, or do I knit the k1 p1 (k3 p3) four times???

Just knit whatever’s in the (), so you start with the k p, then do k3 p3 4 times, and I think the rest of the row would be all knits.
