Ravelry

Is it useful? I was thinking about getting an account but I don’t know if I would use it…

Yes! Very useful! Lots groups with similar projects or interests, patterns, and you can organize your projects – que them, save patterns in the library, and get your stash organized. I started off really slow – not listing what I had for yarn, projects, supplies, etc, but have been slowly adding projects I’m working on/finished and participating in various groups. I especially like how the patterns have tabs to see how other people have done them.

I love KH and Ravelry suppliments and adds to what is offered here.

I enjoy Ravelry. I don’t use it to catalog my patterns or stash. I’m in a few groups with others who share similar interests. I’ve enjoyed seeing how others interpret patterns I’m intersted in. Many free patterns also.

It’s quite useful (and addictive). You might end up there more than you knit. LOL! Guilty!!!

But yes, a wonderful way to find a pattern, see how the ones who have made it generally like the finished product, etc. I’ve avoided knitting things that in the end didn’t make people very happy.

I can’t live without my ravelry anymore. I use it for everything. If you’ve got a specific question, ravelry probably has the answer. Looking for a pattern? Ravely has a huge database. Want to know how many yards you have in your stash? Ravelry has a page made for your stash. Want to know how many projects you made this year? Ravelry has a project-page with all your projects in it. Want to know what other people knitted with a yarn you have no idea what to do with? Go to Ravelry…

In short, I love Ravelry and I would definitely make an account if I were you. And besides…if you don’t use it, nothing is lost, because it’s free.

I don’t use Ravelry for knitting-related stuff, really. I belong because all my sisters, my mom, and my aunts belong and that’s where it’s easiest for us to keep in touch with each other. I did find it helpful when I was searching for a birthday present for my mom - I went to her favorite patterns and got her a book which had some of them in it.

I LOVE my Ravelry too!! It’s usually the first place I go when looking for a pattern, whether it’s a specific one or just some ideas. I love that you can sort the patterns by so many variables (i.e. yarn, yarn weight, type, etc.). I also love how you can see all the projects others have created from the pattern and various yarns they used and ways they may have altered it. I did start keeping my projects on there this year and really like that too. I’ve always said I would keep a record of my projects and it never happened. This way I’ve got a lot more information than I would if I kept a record any other way. Need I say more? I love my Ravelry!!

Ravelry has to be the best knitting tool out there…

It is like one huge knitting book, with illustration, suggestions and organization all in one!

I like it. Give it a try, if you don’t find it useful you can just not go there. You won’t know if you don’t check it out.

I’m another voter on YES on Ravelry. VERY useful. I still come to KH when I have a question, and sometimes there’s almost TOO much info on Rav, but all in all, it’s been a huge help, and also a huge enabler of my knitting habit.

Exactly. It’s my main go to place to search for patterns, find out what patterns have been made with a specific yarn, etc. I have all my projects and notes there and I pretty much gave up my blog for Rav now.

I prefer KH hands down when it comes to forums though. Rav is useful, but KH is like a small hometown…but one where there are lots of experts in knitting.

Exactly!

Yes, Ravelry is very useful! However, it is only as useful as you make it. To get the full benefit of the software, you need to enter your project and stash (yarn) details, along with photos.

It is a lot of work to set up your Ravelry Notebook, but once you do…it will go to work for you! There is also a great QUEUE feature, that allows you to gather up patterns for your future knitting. Once a project has been saved to your QUEUE, the Rav software will tell you which yarns in your stash will fit the pattern requirements.

My favorite bit: when I’ve entered a finished project, stating how much of a particular yarn was used, the Rav software subtracts it from my Stash page for that particular yarn, and tells me how much I have left. Down to the grams, ounces and yards!

So I signed up. And I am trying to figure it out. And looking for new ideas.

Caution it gets addicting! Every time i turn my computer on, after my e-mail i open 2 tabs and check here and raverly at the same time. i think i have problems…
