# Rainbow cardigan...stuck on decreasing back

Hi

I’m knitting a rainbow cardigan from a Paintbox pattern for my little girl and I’m totally stuck on the pattern.

I’m on the back and it says Dec 1 st at each end of next and 7 [7: 6: 7: 6] foll 4th rows…

What’s it mean by next 7 following 4th rows? I’m on the second size.

Totally confused…

Call the next row, row 1. Decrease on the next row and then every 4 rows thereafter, stopping after 8 total decreases.
That would be decreases on rows I,5,9,13,17,21,25 and 29.

So what’s the 7 for then? I have 49 at and need to decrease down to 21st. If I do what you suggest I’m left with 31sts so I’m 10 stitches over…

Probably this free pattern at LoveKnitting.

Dec 1 st at each end of next and 7 [7: 6: 7: 6] foll 4th rows, then on foll 5 [6: 10: 10: 13] alt row

The instructions are to dec on the next and foll 4th rows 7x. So there are 8 dec rows total for 16sts dec. But you’re not finished decreasing. Dec on the foll 6 alternate rows for 12sts dec. That’s a total of 28sts dec (49-28=21).

So for all decs that’s: That would be decreases on rows I,5,9,13,17,21,25, 29 and then 31,33,35,37,39 and 41.

I’m knitting this cardigan in a bigger size two years on and had to refer back to this thread again for help. Thanks so much…u saved my bacon twice now!
