I started this cardigan recently and now that I have the rows all set for the raglan shaping, I feel I’ve misread somewhere, it’s way too long where I"m at now and have more rows.
I’m making the 43" bust size so certain Raglan shaping are certain rows, occasionally every fourth row with neck shaping too so some of them don’t have any row increases at all. It’s about 49 rows in total for the yoke, and im just about at 29 rows and 9" already?? Every wrong should be purling right?
Shouldn’t be this confusing for some reason it is for me
Welcome!
It may be that your row gauge isn’t at the pattern row gauge. Usually we ignore row gauge in order to get the stitch gauge spot on. In the case of a raglan you need to compensate for this difference in rows.
The place to do this most easily is where the shaping is every 4th row for 5 times (20 rows total). You could change this to every RS row as the other instructions. That would shorten the number of rows by 10. If you think you’d like the raglan line shorter than that you would place the decreases toward the underarm at every row.
The advantage of the top down construction is that you can put the sts on scrap yarn and try this sweater on at any time to make sure you like the fit.
Yes, purl every WS row. (I count 59 rows total in the raglan line.)
Thanks for taking a look! I measured last night and gauge still met 28 rows for 4", i even went down a needle size for my original gauge check. Definitely weird!
Thanks for the advice, I’ll probably have to frog a bit and then readjust from there, good idea.
