Raglan decrease

Thank you for accepting me into the community!

I have the attached instruction in a pattern. I have just joined my sleeves and body of my sweater onto a round needle and added the four relevant markers, now I am ready for the raglan decrease.

I’m a beginner knitter and confused about how to follow the Round 1 instruction in this pic.

When should I apply the instructions in the bracket shown at the start of the instruction, and how does this relate to the subsequent instructions to work to last 3 stitches?

Thank you! Jo (UK)

You’re going to have 4 markers for the decreases. There’ll be 8 decreases per round, 2 at each marker with a plain knit stitch between the 2 decreases. The direction in parentheses at the beginning of the pattern is an explanation of how to work the skp: slip, knit, pass slipped stitch over.
Start the dec at the first marker, skp, knit to 3sts before marker 2, k2tog, k1, then slip marker 2 and go back to the first asterisk to work the same sequence of decreases again (skp, knit to 3 sts before the next marker, k2tog, k1, slip marker) . You’ll repeat these decreases at markers 3 & 4 and finally end with k2tog, k1 at marker 1.

Thank you! I think I get it now :+1:

It may become clearer as you knit around the yoke. If not, come back and ask again. We always welcome questions. Enjoy knitting your sweater!
