Help! I have been working with an amazing coil sweater pattern, and am getting to the shaping for the shoulders. I can’t seem to decipher the pattern directions and am looking for advice.
Directions: Begin raglan decreases. On every other row decrease 26x1 stitches on both ends. On a RS row, p1, p2tog, work to last three stitches p2tog from back. On every other row decrease 2x2 stitches at both ends: On RS row p1, p3tog, work to last three, p3tog from back loops.
Do I work the first decrease described only on the RS row? Does this mean decreasing 1 stitch on both sides, no decreases on WS and keep going until 26 stitches have been decreased? Do I then continue with the second decreased instructions? Or, do I work both decreases simultaneously, every other row. Help!!!
Thank you x 1 million for anyone who can decipher the code!
Alternate decrease rows until you have worked the decrease of 2sts at each end (the p3tog rows) two times for the 3rd size.
So you’ll work a one stitch decrease at each end on row 1, a two stitch decrease at each end on row 3, a one stitch dec at each end on row 5 and a two stitch decrease at each end on row 7. From there on continue with the one stitch decrease on every RS row until you have worked the one stitch dec row 26 times total.
Yes, both decreases are worked simultaneously on RS rows (no decreases on purl rows).
Just one more question. Do I keep the seed stitches going on the decreased edges, or should I purl the purls and knit the knits to provide a different edge?
You could keep a stockinette or reverse stockinette edge stitch in order to simplify seaming. I’d rather seam that edge than seed stitch and it’ll be simpler to work given the decreases of one or two sts at each edge.
