Raglan Confusion. Please help!

Hi all,

I’ve knitted a few items over the years, but this is my first attempt at a sweater with Raglan sleeves. There is some language that I’m simply not picking up and my Google efforts are for naught.

I’ve done this part successfully:
1st Row. K1 S1 K1 PSSO patt to last 2 sts k2tog (20 sts)
2nd Row. Patt to last 2 sts p2
3rd Row. K2 patt to end
4th Row. Patt to last 2 sts p2
From 1st to 4th Row sets raglan and neck shapings

OK, here is what I don’t understand:
Work 28 rows dec 1 st at Raglan edge as before in next and every foll 4th row AT SAME TIME dec 1 st at neck edge in 6th and every foll 9th Row. (10 sts)

I tried writing out the 28 rows and what I need to do in each Row, but I’m just muddled. I guess I don’t really understand the verbiage used. Can anyone assist?

You’re right to write out these rows and then cross them off as you work them.
Work the raglan dec on rows 1,5,9,13,17,21,25,29
Work the neck dec on rows 6,15,24.

Because the neck dec is every 9 rows, it sometimes falls on an even number row but you can work it on the next odd number row or the previous odd row. So the neck dec on row 16 could be worked on either row 15 or 17.

Different angle for the neck opening than for the raglan seams means different decrease rates.
