Raglan Armholes

Hi there,

Someone please explain this pattern step by step to me

Cast off 4 sts at beg of next 2 rows… (55 sts)

Next row: k1, sl1, k1, psso, knit to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1

Dec one st (as in previous row) at each end of every foll 4th row until 41 sts rem, then in every foll alt row until 27 sts remain
Work 1 row
Cast off

I’m to follow the above pattern to shape armholes. Can someone please help me make sense of this as this is my first cardigan and I’m a bit confused!

For reference I have so far knitted stockinette up until this point.

Where it says cast off 4 sts at beginning of next two rows, am I to continue stockinette throughout these two rows, or am I now following the pattern where it says ‘next row’? (K1, s1, k1, psso, knit to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1)?

And then the instructions after that I need someone to break that down further for me.

Thank you in advance!

Hi,
You continue to work stockinette while decreasing the raglan edges.
Cast off 4 sts, knit to the end of the 1st row, cast off 4 sts purl to the end of the 2nd row = 55 sts
Next row (rs) K1 stitch, slip 1 stitch, knit the next stitch, lift the slipped stitch over the last stitch you knit - 1 stitch decreased, knit to the last 3 sts, k2 together, K1.
Purl all the sts on the following row which you now think of as row1, knit the next row(row 2), purl the following row(row 3) then for the following knit row( row4) you work the same decreases as before over the the first 3 and last 3 sts.
You continue this until you have 41 sts left on your needles then instead of decreasing every 4th row you switch to decreasing every knit row until 27 sts remain on your needles, work 1 row then cast off those sts.
Hope this helps
Linda
