so I’ve been looking for a quick and easy baby hat pattern that I could knit up since my cousin is being put into labor 5 weeks early due to complications and since I’m still a new knitter I need something simple…I’ve found this and I think this might be a good quick knit. I was thinking of using some soft cotton yarn for it unless you all can tell me something that might be better or if you know of another easy pattern.
Quick and easy baby hat
It looks like a pretty hat! If you are making it for use right away though, it might be too big. You might want to check out some preemie caps or nicu caps. I don’t know your friends circumstance but it seems likely that little babe will spend some time there to get food and grow a bit. I think bevs cottage has a size chart for preemie heads if you are going to resize this pattern, Good luck to you and your friend!
yea I’m figuring on just juding the size as I’m working on it…its her second baby and its a boy so she didnt get a shower and had a girl for the first one so most of what she has is pink so I was thinking of just doing a quick little blue and white hat since there are several others in our family crocheting blankets for this one…looks like off the joanns I go on my lunch break…
Make sure you get something super soft, preemies skin is much thinner that a newborns. I find that even some baby yarns can be a bit scratchy! So far my absolute favorite for softness is bernats bamboo, but I am not sure how well the fabric lasts since I have never washed my little creations yet!
PS I had twins who had to stay in the nicu and were 6 weeks early. They are making a horrible mess as we speak!
yea i was thinking either cotton or bamboo…i know all the stuff i have at home wont work so off the the store…lol…thats really just an excuse for more yarn shopping
That hat looks a little bulky, but I guess it’s because it’s garter stitch. I’m assuming you don’t want hat knit flat… here’s a few more.

For yarn I’d recommend a very soft cotton, bamboo or premium acrylic microfiber. Choose whichever weight and needles work with the pattern.
thanks and I’m happy to report that the little guy was born this morning at 8:52 weighing 6lbs and measuring 18in both mother and baby are doing well I’m told
Oh good, glad to hear it! :yay:
YAY! What a great weight!
That’s a pretty good size for 5 weeks early. Good thoughts for everyone - hope he thrives very well and can go home quickly.
