Question on Pattern

It’s a fingerless glove pattern. The pattern says-
Start thumb gusset as follows: P1, inc. in next st., k2, inc. in next st., P1.
K2 rounds even, keeping the P1 sts uniform.

I’m confused. There’s a total of 56 sts.
The row before was stockinette in the round.

 1. When the pattern tells me to to increase into the next stitch, does that mean I should increase as if to purl or knit?
 2. After I P1 for the second time, what I am I supposed to do with the rest of the stitches? Knit them or purl them? Or do I repeat the “P1, inc. in next st…” part of the pattern until I end the round?
 3. What does it mean by “keeping the P1 sts uniform”? Does that mean in the next round I’m supposed to purl them?

Can you post a link or tell us the pattern? That would help!

I think - keeping the P1 sts uniform - means they should be stacking on top of each other. It sounds like you may have a rib pattern going so you would keep the inc sts in pattern. A link or a picture would be helpful.
