I don’t know how to pick up stitches??
I am working on my first purse. I am trying to knit the sides. I have completed worked 4 inches of garter stitches (20 stitches on the needle.
Next step is to pick up and knit 8 stitches along the end and then pick up and knit 20 stitches along the side. I can’t figure out how to do that??:??
Have you knitted socks? Do it like you pick up stitches around a gusset.
thanks but i have not. so far I have made some scarves and 3 blocks for the great american quilt
Hope this helps you. http://www.vogueknitting.com/?q=node/236.
Are you using a circular needle? You’ll need to, to make it work. The first few ‘rounds or rows’ will be a bit tight and awkward, but it gets easier the more times you go around.
for the picking up, it might almost be easier to use double pted needles, one on each side of the bottom square. After you pick them up and get the first ‘round’ done, switch to the circ needle.
Hope this helps-
It’s easy-breezy, once you learn! Basically, you put the needle through a stitch on the edge of your work, and then loop the yarn around as if you were knitting, pulling it back through to create live stitches were there were none.
Amy has a good video to show you how. Click hereand scroll down near the bottom of the page for the video.
