I am starting on the collar of this sweater on the Starksy Jr. Sweater from Knitty Winter 2006.
I think I understand how to do the short rows.
I work the right front edge and back neckline edge to 4 sts past right marker wrap and turn, then this is where I begin to get confused. :??
Next the pattern says to work to 4 sts past left marker, w&t
But if I turn the work after the right marker, how can I get to the left marker and so on?
The pattern says for ALL SIZES to work to end of row. If I do that then I can see how I would be able to get to the left marker.
Hope this makes sense.

When you turn after the right marker, it’s as if you’re at the end of a row, and you go back across the sts you just worked to the left marker.
okay thought I figured this out, but guess not.
I picked up the stitches starting at the lower right front, placed the right and left markers. And started the 3X3 rib row. Now I am ready to begin the short rows.
I work along the right front edge and back necline edge to 4 sts past the right marker, w &t and work back to where I started the row.
Then I start the next row and work 4 sts past left marker w&t and work back to where I started the row.
Is this correct?
It does seem right to me, because the left front edge is not being worked.
What am I doing wrong?:wall:

No; I think you’re going the wrong direction with the second bit.
You start in the middle of the piece, right? (front center) And you work the right front and keep going until 4 sts past the right marker. And then you knit back to where you started and keep going (in the same direction, without turning), working the left front until you go past that marker.
no I don’t think I start in the middle. It states in the pattern to work along right front edge and back necline edge to 4 sts past right marker w&t.
I am going to frog what I have done and start over, I think I might be getting confused on my markers

It’s not necessarily the middle of the [I]row[/I], but it’s the middle of the garment. (I’m assuming the markers have something to do with where the shoulders will go, or something.)
I could be wrong though, but the way I’m visualizing it (knit right side to past marker, w&t, and keep going to past the left marker) is the only way I can get it to make sense.
(unless you’re just doing the right side of the garment, and the markers are both on the right side, and you do the left later)
