Question from a beginner

Hi all!!

I’m knitting my son a stuffed bunny for Easter and am knitting in the round with stitches divided on three double pointed needles. I’ve noticed that no matter how tight I begin things, there is a hole in the center of my work where I joined in the round. I began again and made sure to pull things tightly, but once I hit round 8 or so I realized the center was once again about a dime sized hole. Is this normal? Anything I’m doing wrong?

Thanks!!!

Sunny

Are you starting out with only a few stitches and knitting in the round? After your first round, join the work. Pull the tail as tightly as you can and that should close up the hole. I use my own cast on similar to this for toe up socks. I start out on circulars with four stitches and increase for the toe, pulling that tail shut.

That’s normal although a dime sized hole is pretty large. How many are you starting with? A link to the pattern would be helpful.

You can use the tail when you’re done to close the hole usually.

Thanks guys! I’m attaching the body portion of the pattern. It’s 8 stitches cast on and distributed onto 3 needles. The hole seemed to grow as I increased throughout the following 7 or so rows.

If it’s only 8 it shouldn’t be that large a hole. :?? It’s normal to have a gap and you can fix that with the tail.

Here’s a video of one method that might help. Unfortunately it’s done in dark yarn with lots of stitches, but still should work fine. She shows it both with circs and with DPN.

Same thing in pics-

Do you mean a hole like at the top of a hat when you get to the last stitches? Could you run the tail through them and pull it tight, similar to finishing a hat?

Thanks ladies!!! I will continue and hope to thread the tail when the body is complete. I’m so appreciative for the help!
