Question about the Magic loop?I'm stuck!

Hi,
I just learned how to do the Magice Loop at my LYS and I’m making a plain sock pattern in a k2,p2 rib, I have done 7 inches and it looks great if I do say so myself!
Now the problem, the directions read:
…continue till entire leg measures 2 3/4 (4-6-7-9) inches or desired length to heel.
HEEL: While working the heel you will only work the stitches on one needle (this will now be the heel needle) beginning heel flap as follows:

Row 1: slip 1st (as if to purl), K1 repeat across row.

Turn work around and work these same stitches again.

Row 2: slip 1st (as if to purl), purl across row

Turn work around and work these same stitches again.

Repeat rows 12 until “heel flap” measures just shy of 2 inches (for me). end having just worked a knit row (row1).

THIS IS what I don’t understand: How do I only work on ONE needle? How do the needles go? Do I push all the stiches together as if I am working in the round, but I don’t see how that would work either…the would be stretched. I have only made one sock before (never knitted the mate!) and that was 2 years ago.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I’ve never done socks on circulars before, but I’m going to try this weekend. From what I understand, you’ll just knit and purl on half of the total number of stitches. The other half of the stitches are “resting” on the cable, at least that’s my understanding. You’ll still use the other needles, but you won’t be working those stitches.

Yes, Sknitter is right,

It’s just their way of saying you’ll be working back and forth on the heel sts. Instead of bringing the sts that are on the cable up onto the needle, and pushing the sts you just knit onto the cable, you’ll just turn as though knitting on a straight needle.

Thank you so much, I’m going to go try it!

Thank’s Linda, I’m going to try it!

This is one of those knitting things that are just better to do than to try to figure out. Once I took the leap I saw that it was going to work out fine.
