Question about the German twisted cast on

Hi

I’ve watched the video on the German twisted cast on and have decided to use it for my beanie. I followed the presenter and cast on without doing a slip knot first. However, I find that after the first cast on stitch, I actually end up with two stitches on my needle. I have to cast on 106 stitches for my beanie. Do I count the first cast on stitch as two stitches or one, please?

If you started with the yarn draped over the needle, that’ll give you 2sts after the first twisted cast on stitch. Count that as 2 sts or 2 loops over the needle and proceed to cast on the remaining 104sts.
