Hi, everybody, I’m so grateful as always for your help. My question today involves Brooklyn Tweed’s Wallace pattern, which is a shawl that I am obsessed with and determined to create. I’ve been playing around with it a bit and have been, as instructed, slipping the first stitch of right-side rows with yarn in back and the first stitch of wrong-side rows with yarn in front. When I look at videos online I can see that the position of the yarn in the middle of a row makes a difference when slipping purlwise. However, when I do this on the first stitch, it doesn’t seem to make a difference. Am I doing it wrong, or is it maybe that in the pattern they are specifying this to maintain consistency as right-side rows are more “knitty” and wrong-side are more “purly.”
Question about slipping first stitch in row purlwise with yarn in front vs in back
Here’s also a nice video that adds in the manner in which the stitch is slipped, knitwise or purlwise. See about 4:45min.
