Question about pattern

Ok, just finished a scarf, but didn’t follow the directions (and it came out great!) But would like to follow the directions this time if possible…lol But not sure it can be done. It tell me to cast on 126 on size 17 US needles, then knit 11 rows and cast off. (I did it opposite on the last one…lol) I’m using the big n lofty yarn from Wally Word, as the pattern calls for, and it didn’t for special needles or anything… But my question finally is: Can you really get 126 cast on stiches on those short needles? They are about 2 inches shorter than the 10’s I was previousely working with… And they didn’t have any that were longer!

You’re going to need a circular needle for that many stitches, but it knit flat, turning the work back and forth, don’t join it into a circle.

But I’m not sure I’ve ever seen circulars in size 17s… hmmm

Addi makes a 17 circular - you can buy from Jeff Wonderland for a reasonable price, otherwise, it is rather outrageous.

On the pic the supplies called for were just the needles, and I did look for circulars. Guess I was right in trying the first one with 11 cast and 126 rows! Just wanted to have the lines go the other way…

Didn’t think I was going crazy already! Thanks for the help gardenmommy!

I’ve got a size 17 circ sitting right in front of me. It’s 29" length if I’m not mistaken. That’s actually the size I’m using for my Skacel sweater. I got mine at work {I try not to say the W-word too loud in this forum! }. It’s 12.75 mm for those of you that are size challenged, like me.
