Question about pattern wording

Hi. I’m new to knitting and currently working on a beret for a baby hat. I am working with 4 dpns using the St stitch where I knit every row since it’s in the round. My next instructions say “knit even in St st for 2 1/4 inches” What does it mean by knit even? Do I just keep on going with the regular knitting for 2 1/4 inches or does the even refer to even rows? I had just finished doing the hem and cuff of the hat and my last round I K3, M1 to increase the amount of stitches to start the top of the hat. This is where the beret starts to puff out at the top so I didn’t know if I would get the puffy effect by just knitting all rows for the 2 1/4 inches or if I needed to do something else. Thank you for any help!

Knit even means that you will just be knitting all stitches, no increases or decreases.

Yup – just knit all the rows without increasing or decreasing.

Julie, we seem to be thinking alike today!!

great minds…

thank you both so much! I have been working really hard on this and am hoping to finish it tomorrow. I am pregnant and will be induced tomorrow at 4 pm. I am hoping to have it finished before my little girl gets here. I have been crocheting all kinds of ponchos and just this week bought a book of knitted hats so figured I would try this cute pattern. I am sure I will have more questions though since I’m a beginner, lol.
Thank you again!
