Question about "make 1 increase"

I am a beginning knitter. I love to watch Knitty Gritty, and they have often mentioned that a “make 1 increase” is the least noticeable type of increase, so I want to learn how to do it. I understand that you pick up the bar in between the stitches and put it on the needle. My question is this: do you then knit it, or do you just slip it on and knit it in the next row or round? Thanks in advance!

You pick it up and knit it, but do it through the back loop so it’s twisted. The twist is what makes it less noticeable.

Thank you so much!
